M.O.G.O.K S.U.S.U

Yes! Kids nowadays dah pandai mogok wpun belum pandai bercakap atau berjalan. Nasib baik tak sampai tahap buat demonstrasi. Semalam dan hari ini aku amik cuti. Kenapa? Sbb abah Amin pergi berkursus ke Janda Baik smp Ahad nih. So, disebabkan kami cuma ada satu kereta, maka terpaksalah ummu Amin amik cuti. Nasib baik Nenek Amin ada temankan sekali. Abah Amin bertolak Rabu petang bersama 2 org lagi rakannya. First night Amin ok. Lepas Maghrib terus tido smp ke pagi. Hari Khamis, Amin cam biasa, bgn tido, bfast, mandi, main, tido balik, bgn lunch, main ngan nenek. Petang semlm, first time bawak Amin gi playground dekat ngan umah. Punyalah seronok dia dapat main kat situ.

Bab mogok susu

Dijadikan cerita, masa nak menyusukan Amin, dia pergi gigit n****e Ummi. Ummi pulak emosional ter'marah' Amin. Selalunya Abah Amin yg tolong marahkan. Apa lagi menangislah dia. Dua kali dia buat, dua2 kali kena marah. Pastuh masa nak tido semlm dia menangis yg tahap menjerit sekuat hati. Ingatkan dia sakit perut. Offer b****t dia tolak. Siap geleng2 kepala tak nak. Mata dah layu sgt dah masa tuh tapi still tak nak tido. At last, my mom panaskan BLM dlm fridge. Letak dlm bottle, bagi dia terus dia minum dgn suka hatinya. Masa tuh punyalah geram. Merajuk rupanya smp boikot tak nak breastfeed. Lepas abis susu dlm botol baru dia nak tido. Dlm kul 1.30am dia bgn lagi, tak cukup susu. Terpaksa bancuhkan susu tepung (dpt free). Dia minum tak byk, maybe tak suka sgt. Pastuh dia tido balik. Sepanjang mlm semlm rasa2nya adalah 4-5 kali jugak dia terjaga nak susu. Bila offer b****t dia tak nak. So, bagi jer susu tepung jer. Smplah pagi tadi. pas bfast n mandi. Dia mengantuk nak tido balik tapi still on MOGOK mode. So, bagi jer air masak. Minum pulak tuh, sebelum ni kalau bagi air masak dlm botol mentah2 dia tolak. Tapi disbbkan mogok, air masak pun dia telan. Isk... napalah Amin nih 'bijak' sgt.

My mom kata maybe Amin dah nak berhenti menyusu badan kot. Ermm... tapi cam pelik pulak, selalunya susah nak ush budak berhenti menyusu. Tapi nih dia pulak tak nak. Masa Amin tido Ummi surf net cari sbb napa Amin tak nak breastfeed. At last terjumpalah several article pasal 'Nursing Strike'. Rupa2nya ramai ibu2 kat luar sana yg experienced the same thing. Inilah bagusnya Internet. Maklumat di hujung jari. Bila baca article2 tuh. Ummi trylah one of the step 'Try nursing when your baby is asleep or very sleepy. Many babies who refuse to nurse when they're awake will breastfeed when they're sleepy. ' Alhamdulillah, Amin nak menyusu masa dia tido. So, betullah dia tgh 'nursing strike'.

Tak tahu sampai bila Amin nak mogok, tapi Ummi akan tetap bfeedkan Amin hopefully smp Amin umur 2 tahun. InsyaAllah.

Nursing strikeby Natalie Walker Whitlock
Reviewed by the BabyCenter Medical Advisory Board
What is it?
A baby who refuses to breastfeed, and is not in the process of being weaned, is said to be on a "nursing strike." A nursing strike is your baby's way of telling you that something's wrong. And it'll probably take a little detective work to figure out the problem.
What causes it?
According to the La Leche League International, some of the most common reasons for a nursing strike include:

• Mouth pain from teething, a cold sore, or an infection (such as thrush).

• In an older baby, the baby is afraid Mom will scream. This is common when your teething baby bites and you react by yelling.

• An ear infection, which causes pressure or pain while nursing.

• A cold or stuffy nose, which makes breathing difficult while nursing.

• Too many bottles or overuse of a pacifier, resulting in a reduced milk supply.

• A major disruption in your baby's routine, such as you returning to work.

• An unusually long separation from you.

Other causes include food sensitivity or allergy (most likely to occur in the early months), a cream or perfumed product applied on or near your breasts, or a change in the taste of your milk caused by a vitamin, a drug, or certain foods.

What can I do?A nursing strike can be hard for even the most dedicated breastfeeding mother. If you and your baby are dealing with a nursing strike, now's the time to reconfirm your commitment to breastfeeding. With patience and support, you can survive a strike.

A nursing strike usually lasts between two and five days, or longer. While you continue to encourage your baby to nurse, you'll need to express your milk by hand or pump every few hours (about as often as your baby had been nursing). This will help prevent plugged ducts or engorgement, and provide your baby with the milk he needs. Try offering the expressed milk in a sippy cup, a spoon, an eyedropper, or a feeding syringe. Use a bottle as a last resort, because it could make the problem worse.

Here are some recommended ways to overcome a nursing strike:
• Try nursing when your baby is asleep or very sleepy. Many babies who refuse to nurse when they're awake will breastfeed when they're sleepy.

• Visit your baby's doctor to rule out medical causes (such as an ear infection or thrush) and seek feeding advice.

• Vary your nursing position.

• Nurse in motion. Some babies are more likely to nurse when you rock or walk them than when you're sitting or standing still.

• Nurse in an environment that's free from distractions. It's common for a 6- to 9-month-old to go on a nursing strike as he becomes more aware of the world. Babies this age are easily distracted and often prefer to "snack" at the breast instead of settling down for a meal. Try nursing in a dimly lit, quiet room, away from the sound of the radio or television.

• Give your baby lots of skin-to-skin contact (try nursing without a shirt on or in a warm bath). A sling or carrier can help keep your baby close between nursing attempts.

• Try eliminating food (such as caffeine, chocolate, cruciferous vegetables, or spicy food) from your diet that may be irritating to your baby

It's easy to jump to the conclusion that a baby who doesn't want to nurse is weaning himself. But it is unlikely that a baby under a year old who has been successfully breastfeeding is ready to give up nursing.

Will it affect my baby?
A nursing strike can be upsetting for your baby as well as for you. Try to keep other elements of your baby's routine as normal as possible during the strike. Give him extra attention and physical contact.

If you're worried that your baby isn't getting enough food, keep track of wet diapers. At least five to six wet disposable diapers per day — or six to eight cloth diapers — indicate that he's taking in enough fluid (disposable diapers are so absorbent that you may not notice every time he urinates). Don't hesitate to call the doctor if you're worried.
Can I still nurse?
Absolutely. It's important to keep trying to nurse your baby. With patience and persistence you should get back to your breastfeeding routine.

Gene may explain why breastfeeding boosts intelligence

Tue, Nov 6, 2007(Reuters) - A very common gene can help explain why breast-fed babies tend to grow up to be more intelligent than those raised exclusively on bottled milk.

Breast-fed babies who shared the genetic variant outscored bottle-fed peers in intelligence tests, researchers said. The variant to the FADS2 gene, involved in processing fatty acids, is found in about 90 percent of people, they added.

"For 100 years, the intelligence quotient has been at the heart of scientific and public debates about nature versus nurture," Terrie Moffitt of Kings College London and colleagues wrote in their report, published on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"Evidence that nature and nurture work together drives a nail in the coffin of the nature-versus-nurture debate."

The study looked at 3,200 children in Britain and New Zealand.

Breast-feeding has many advantages for children including reducing infections, respiratory illnesses and diarrhoea, earlier research has shown. A study presented at an American Heart Association meeting on Monday added healthier blood cholesterol levels to that list.

Although scientists have been looking at potential links between breast-feeding and intelligence for decades, the direct relationship has not always been clear.

The researchers studied the FADS2 gene involved in processing omega 3 fatty acids found in foods such as salmon, nuts and avocados and turning them into nutrients for the brain.

In both countries, breast-fed children had a higher IQ by about 6 to 7 points, but only if they had a variant that made the gene more efficiently process fatty acids.

For those with the less common — and less efficient — variant, breast-feeding made no difference when it came to intelligence, the researchers said.

The researchers ruled out alternate explanations, saying the effect of FADS2 applied equally to babies with normal and low birth weight. The effect was also the same no matter the mother's social class or IQ.

The team also tested the mothers' DNA and concluded that the FADS2 gene did not somehow alter the quality of breast milk.

"We took cells from the children and then analyzed DNA and then we compared how they scored on IQ tests and looked up if they were breast-fed as babies," Moffitt said in a telephone interview. "It was very straightforward."

While the researchers have found at least one gene linking intelligence and breast-feeding, they said they still need to better understand how FADS2 processes nutrients in breast milk.

They also acknowledge that many other genes also likely have a role in intelligence but say their study offers a different approach to unraveling the human genome, Moffitt added.

Backdated entry on Amin's Birthday

Alhamdulillah, kenduri doa selamat & tahlil cum majlis hari lahir Amin berjalan lancar. Cuma kelam kabut sket on 2-3 things. First, pasal khemah. My hubby dah book dgn org lain, sekali org lain yg dtg pasang, Which after investigate, rupa2nya yg dtg pasang tuh org yg i dah cancel booking ngan dia. Ermm.. tak tahulah org tuh tak faham ke atau buat2 tak faham. Sian kat pakcik yg kiteorg dah janji tuh. Second, tgh2 majlis air habis and my hubby pulak lupa beli gula. Byk sgt benda nak kena urus, kesian kat dia. So, adalah dlm sejam gak tetamu tak dapat nak minum disebabkan tunggu gula punya pasal. Third, yg lagi horror, cawan kiteorg abis dipecahkan anak jiran. Masa tuh mmg menguji kesabaran sungguh. Yg geramnya parents dia tak nak pulak menegur perangai anak dia tuh. Nauzubillah, mintak2 Amin janganlah jadi camtuh. Yg lain Alhamdulillah ok. Makanan pun 80% abis. Yg lebih my MIL amik bawak berkat utk jiran2 dia. Makanan yg dimasak sendiri semuanya abis.

Preparation start malam Sabtu. My MIL masak pulut kuning n kari ayam. Aku pulak buat muffin coklat and blueberry. Sampai kul 4 baru tido nak menyudahkan masak muffin tuh. My hubby n my SIL pulak buat party bag utk budak2. My mom tolong jaga Amin. Kesian Amin mlm tuh sbb tak dapat perhatian dr kiteorg. Sampaikan dia tido ngan my mom. Pastuh dlm kul 1 tuh dia terjaga nak menyusu. Baru rehat kejap susukan dia n pastuh sambung balik buat muffin. Kul 4 berenti tido sbb dah tak larat sangat. Ada lebih lagi yg tak di masak, sambung besok pagi.

Pagi kul 7 dah start masak muffin balik. Sambil tuh sediakan bahan untuk buat makaroni bakar. Pas abis masak muffin, bakar makaroni pulak. Sian oven kiteorg arituh, non stop buat keje :) sambil bakar makaroni, aku masak bihun goreng. My MIL pulak buat bubur merah bubur putih. Dlm kul 11.30 kiteorg dah siap masak. Cuma tinggal goreng nugget je. My hubby and BIL kemas kat depan plus bungkus pulut kuning n kari masuk dlm paper bag (utk org surau).

First guest was my officemate, K Khai and K Anum. Pastuh, Seha. Masa tuh main dish still on d way. Dlm kul 12.45 tuh baru my hubby sampai. Dapatlah K Khai n K Anum makan dulu. My Hubby siap2 gi solat Zuhur kat surau and akulak baru nak mandi. Amin mak yg jaga. At the same time, my big bro pun smp. Masa tgh tukarkan baju Amin, org surau pun sampai. And then, startlah busy. Nak potong kek Amin pun tak sempat sbb asik melayan tetamu.
Dlm kul 3 lebih baru potong kek Amin. Punyalah suka dia bila ramai2 kerumun dia n nyanyi lagu birthday. Last guest, K Marya my officemate gak. Mlm tuh terus tido pas Solat Maghrib. Besok pagi baru kemas2 rumah n bukak hadiah Amin.

Pada kawan2 yg bagi hadiah utk Amin, thanks a lot!! Amin suka sangat hadiah yg dia dapat (sbb parents dia tak pernah belikan mainan utk Amin).
